Meaning of the term 'Bhujangam'
The term 'Bhujangam' indicates the shape and movement of the 'serpent'. The verse in this stotram is composed like the movement of a serpent. Lord Subramanya, also known as Lord Muruga is also conceived and worshipped as a great divine serpent. You may witness this kind of worship at the Kukke Subrahmanya temple located in Karnataka State, India and the Lord is indeed worshipped in this manner.
Sri Subramanya Bhujangam
॥ 1 ॥
sadā bālarūpā'pi vighnādrihantrī
vidhīndrādimṛgyā gaṇeśābhidhā me
vidhattāṃ śriyaṃ kā'pi kalyāṇamūrtiḥ ॥
सदा बालरूपाऽपि विघ्नाद्रिहन्त्री
महादन्तिवक्त्राऽपि पञ्चास्यमान्या ।
विधीन्द्रादिमृग्या गणेशाभिधा मे
विधत्तां श्रियं काऽपि कल्याणमूर्तिः ॥
ஸதா³ பா³லரூபாঽபி விக்நாத்³ரிஹந்த்ரீ
மஹாத³ந்திவக்த்ராঽபி பஞ்சாஸ்யமாந்யா ।
விதீந்த்³ராதி³ம்ருʼக்³யா க³ணேஶாபிதா மே
விதத்தாம் ஶ்ரியம் காঽபி கல்யாணமூர்தி: ॥
Meaning
Though he always sports the appearance of a child, he can crumble the the mountains of obstacles. Though he is elephant-faced, he is honored even by his five-faced father Shiva (sadyaojAtam, vAmadevam, aghoram, tatpuruSham and IshAnam). Lord Brahma, Indra and the other Devas seek him to fulfill their aspirations. He is known as Ganesha and he is endowed with boundless glory. May he bless me with wealth!
॥ 2 ॥
Na jānāmi śabdaṃ na jānāmi cārthaṃNa jānāmi padyaṃ na jānāmi gadyam ।
Cidekā ṣaḍāsya hṛdi dyotate me
Mukhānniḥsarante giraścāpi citram ॥
न जानामि शब्दं न जानामि चार्थं
न जानामि पद्यं न जानामि गद्यम् ।
चिदेका षडास्य हृदि द्योतते मे
मुखान्निःसरन्ते गिरश्चापि चित्रम् ॥
ந ஜாநாமி ஶப்³த³ம் ந ஜாநாமி சார்த²ம்
ந ஜாநாமி பத்³யம் ந ஜாநாமி க³த்³யம் ।
சிதே³கா ஷடா³ஸ்ய ஹ்ருʼதி³ த்³யோததே மே
முகா²ந்நி:ஸரந்தே கி³ரஶ்சாபி சித்ரம் ॥
Meaning
I know not the science of musical sounds, I know not the meanings of complex texts either, I know not the nature of shlokas made of four types of padAs, and nor do I know the intricacies of the Gadyam style! But in my heart, shines a effulgent light with luminous six faces, and because of that from my mouth, amazing phrases with musical tone and meanings pour out in extempore.
॥ 3 ॥
Mayūrādhirūḍhaṃ mahāvākyagūḍhaṃManohāridehaṃ mahaccittageham ।
Mahīdevadevaṃ mahāvedabhāvaṃ
Mahādevabālaṃ bhaje lokapālam ॥
मयूराधिरूढं महावाक्यगूढं
मनोहारिदेहं महच्चित्तगेहम् ।
महीदेवदेवं महावेदभावं
महादेवबालं भजे लोकपालम् ॥
மயூராதி ரூடம் மஹா வாக்யகூ³டம்
மநோஹாரி தே³ஹம் மஹச்சித்த கே³ஹம் ।
மஹீதே³வ தே³வம் மஹா வேத³பாவம்
மஹாதே³வ பா³லம் பஜே லோக பாலம் ॥
Meaning
When shrI shankara sang this verse, it is said that Lord Subrahmanya gave him darshan. O Son of Mahadeva! Seated on the peacock chariot, being the essence of the great mahA vAkyAs, having wonderfully attractive body, dwelling in the heart of great sages, O the quintessence of four vedas! Thou are indeed the Lord of the Universe. Reason for residing on the sea shore
॥ 4 ॥
Yadā sannidhānaṃ gatā mānavā meBhavāmbhodhipāraṃ gatāste tadaiva ।
Iti vyañjayansindhutīre ya āste
Tamīḍe pavitraṃ parāśaktiputram ॥
यदा सन्निधानं गता मानवा मे
भवाम्भोधिपारं गतास्ते तदैव ।
इति व्यञ्जयन्सिन्धुतीरे य आस्ते
तमीडे पवित्रं पराशक्तिपुत्रम् ॥
யதா³ ஸந்நிதாநம் க³தா மாநவா மே
பவாம்போதிபாரம் க³தாஸ்தே ததை³வ ।
இதி வ்யஞ்ஜயந்ஸிந்துதீரே ய ஆஸ்தே
தமீடே³ பவித்ரம் பராஶக்திபுத்ரம் ॥
Meaning
O Lord Subrahmanya! son of spotless parAshakti [the Mother of the Cosmos], Thou have taken the your abode near the sea shore (Thiruchendur is a coastal town) as if it is indication that whenever the devotee take refuge in Thee, they can easily cross the ocean of Samsara (the eternal cycle of life and death) and reach the other side of the shore safely! Destroyer of devotee's difficulties ...
॥ 5 ॥
Yathābdhestaraṅgā layaṃ yānti tuṅgā-Stathaivāpadaḥ sannidhau sevatāṃ me ।
Itīvormipaṅktīrnṛṇāṃ darśayantaṃ
Sadā bhāvaye hṛtsaroje guhaṃ tam ॥
यथाब्धेस्तरङ्गा लयं यान्ति तुङ्गा-
स्तथैवापदः सन्निधौ सेवतां मे ।
इतीवोर्मिपङ्क्तीर्नृणां दर्शयन्तं
सदा भावये हृत्सरोजे गुहं तम् ॥
யதா²ப்³தேஸ்தரங்கா³ லயம் யாந்தி துங்கா³-
ஸ்ததை²வா பத:³ ஸந்நிதௌ ஸேவதாம் மே ।
இதீவோர்மி பங்க்தீர் ந்ருʼணாம் த³ர்ஶயந்தம்
ஸதா³ பாவயே ஹ்ருʼத் ஸரோஜே கு³ஹம் தம் ॥
Meaning
The waves of worries that haunt the minds of the devotees get destroyed like the waves of the ocean when they hit the shore, Thou stands on the sea-side town of Thiruchendur exemplifying this truth that the mental worry-waves get destroyed when the devotees surrender themselves at Thy feet. O Lord Guha (one who resides in the cave of the heart)! I meditate on you always! Glory of Sugandha Hill.
॥ 6 ॥
Girau mannivāse narā ye'dhirūḍhā-
Stadā parvate rājate te'dhirūḍhāḥ ।Itīva bruvangandhaśailādhirūḍhaḥ
Sa devo mude me sadā ṣaṇmukho'stu ॥
गिरौ मन्निवासे नरा येऽधिरूढा-
स्तदा पर्वते राजते तेऽधिरूढाः ।
इतीव ब्रुवन्गन्धशैलाधिरूढः
स देवो मुदे मे सदा षण्मुखोऽस्तु ॥
கி³ரௌ மந்நிவாஸே நரா யேঽதிரூடா-
ஸ்ததா³ பர்வதே ராஜதே தேঽதிரூடா: ।
இதீவ ப்³ருவந்க³ந்த ஶைலாதிரூட:
ஸ தே³வோ முதே³ மே ஸதா³ ஷண்முகோ²ঽஸ்து ॥
Meaning
O Lord ShanmukhA! Thou stands on the top of the Sugandha hill, proclaiming that whenever the devotees climb this hill it will give the same benefit as climbing the king of mountains (Kailas)! May the six-faced lord on the Sugandha hills remain there to bless me !
॥ 7 ॥
Mahāmbhodhitīre mahāpāpacoreMunīndrānukūle sugandhākhyaśaile ।
Guhāyāṃ vasantaṃ svabhāsā lasantaṃ
Janārtiṃ harantaṃ śrayāmo guhaṃ tam ॥
महाम्भोधितीरे महापापचोरे
मुनीन्द्रानुकूले सुगन्धाख्यशैले ।
गुहायां वसन्तं स्वभासा लसन्तं
जनार्तिं हरन्तं श्रयामो गुहं तम् ॥
மஹாம்போதிதீரே மஹாபாப சோரே
முநீந்த்³ராநுகூலே ஸுக³ந்தாக்²ய ஶைலே ।
கு³ஹாயாம் வஸந்தம் ஸ்வபாஸா லஸந்தம்
ஜநார்திம் ஹரந்தம் ஶ்ரயாமோ கு³ஹம் தம் ॥
Meaning
On the shores of the great ocean which steals away the sins of the devotees, stands the Sugandha hills, the most favourable site for the sages to perform their penance! Thou resides there to destroy the worries of the devotees! O self-luminous Lord who is present in the cave of the heart! I adore Thee !
॥ 8 ॥
Sumastoma sañchanna māṇikya mañce ।
samudyat sahasrārka tulya prakāśaṃ
sadā bhāvaye kārtikeyaṃ sureśam ॥
लसत्स्वर्णगेहे नृणां कामदोहे
सुमस्तोम सञ्छन्न माणिक्य मञ्चे ।
समुद्यत्सहस्रार्क तुल्य प्रकाशं
सदा भावये कार्तिकेयं सुरेशम् ॥
லஸத் ஸ்வர்ணகே³ஹே ந்ருʼணாம் காமதோ³ஹே
ஸுமஸ்தோம ஸஞ்ச²ந்ந மாணிக்ய மஞ்சே ।
ஸமுத்³யத் ஸஹஸ்ரார்க துல்ய ப்ரகாஶம்
ஸதா³ பாவயே கார்திகேயம் ஸுரேஶம் ॥
Meaning
In a radiant golden bed room, on a cot set with rubies and covered on all sides with sweet smelling flowers, Thou art seated with the effulgence of thousand suns! Thou art the answer to every desire of the heart and Thou fulfils the righteous desires of Thy devotees! Thou art the lord of devas and son of the lord of the universe! O KartikeyA I meditate on Thee!
॥ 9 ॥
Raṇad dhaṃsake mañjule't yantaśoṇeManohāri lāvaṇya pīyūṣa pūrṇe ।
Manaḥ ṣaṭpado me bhavakleśataptaḥ
Sadā modatāṃ skanda te pādapadme ॥
रणद्धंसके मञ्जुलेऽत्यन्तशोणे
मनोहारि लावण्य पीयूषपूर्णे ।
मनःषट्पदो मे भवक्लेशतप्तः
सदा मोदतां स्कन्द ते पादपद्मे ॥
ரணத்³தம்ஸகே மஞ்ஜுளே த்யந்தஶோணே
மநோஹாரி லாவண்ய பீயூஷபூர்ணே ।
மந:ஷட்பதோ³ மே பவக்லேஶதப்த:
ஸதா³ மோத³தாம் ஸ்கந்த³ தே பாத³பத்³மே ॥
Meaning
Let the mind (like a bee) which is burdened with domestic troubles become happy by hovering around Thy lotus feet which is adorned with the jingling ringlets made of rings and beads, red in color indicating the grace, filled with the nectar of beauty and attracts the minds of the devotees.
॥ 10 ॥
Suvarṇābha divyāmbarair bhāsamānāṃKvaṇat kiṅkiṇī mekhalā śobhamānām ।
Lasaddhema paṭṭena vidyota mānāṃ
Kaṭiṃ bhāvaye skanda te dīpyamānām ॥
सुवर्णाभ दिव्याम्बरैर्भासमानां
क्वणत्किङ्किणी मेखला शोभमानाम् ।
लसद्धेमपट्टेन विद्योत मानां
कटिं भावये स्कन्द ते दीप्यमानाम् ॥
ஸுவர்ணாப தி³வ்யாம் ப³ரைர் பாஸமாநாம்
க்வணத் கிங்கிணீ மேக²லா ஶோபமாநாம் ।
லஸத்³தேம பட்டேந வித்³யோத மாநாம்
கடிம் பாவயே ஸ்கந்த³ தே தீ³ப்யமாநாம் ॥
Meaning
Oh! Skanda, I meditate on Thy waist which is covered by a gold colored cloth, shining with a string of ringing bells and beads, wearing a shining gold belt over the golden silk cloth, and which is by itself self-resplendent.
॥ 11 ॥
Pulindeśa kanyā ghanā bhogatuṅga-
Stanā liṅga nāsakta kāśmī rarāgam ।
Namasyāmahaṃ tārakāre tavoraḥ
Svabhaktāvane sarvadā sānurāgam ॥
पुलिन्देशकन्याघनाभोगतुङ्ग-
स्तनालिङ्गनासक्तकाश्मीररागम् ।
नमस्यामहं तारकारे तवोरः
स्वभक्तावने सर्वदा सानुरागम् ॥
स्तनालिङ्गनासक्तकाश्मीररागम् ।
नमस्यामहं तारकारे तवोरः
स्वभक्तावने सर्वदा सानुरागम् ॥
புலிந்தே³ஶ கந்யாகநா போக³துங்க³-
ஸ்தநாலிங்க³ நாஸக்த காஶ்மீர ராக³ம் ।
நமஸ்யாமஹம் தாரகாரே தவோர:
ஸ்வபக்தாவநே ஸர்வதா³ ஸாநுராக³ம் ॥
Meaning:
Oh! conqueror of Tarakasura! By embracing Valli's ( Hunter's daughter) well-developed breast ornated with saffron, Thy chest became red colored, thereby manifesting your eternal grace towards devotees. And such a chest I adore.
॥ 12 ॥
Vidhau kḷptadaṇḍān svalīlā dhṛtāṇḍān
Nirastebhaśuṇḍān dviṣatkāla daṇḍān ।
Hatendrāri ṣaṇḍāñ jagatrāṇa śauṇḍān
Sadā te pracaṇḍān śraye bāhudaṇḍān ॥
विधौ कॢप्तदण्डान् स्वलीलाधृताण्डा-
न्निरस्तेभशुण्डान् द्विषत्कालदण्डान् ।
हतेन्द्रारिषण्डाञ्जगत्राणशौण्डान्
सदा ते प्रचण्डान् श्रये बाहुदण्डान् ॥
விதௌ⁴ க்லுʼப்தத³ண்டா³ந் ஸ்வலீலா த்⁴ருʼதாண்டா³ந்
நிரஸ்தேப⁴ ஶுண்டா³ந் த்³விஷத்கால த³ண்டா³ந் ।
ஹதேந்த்³ராரி ஷண்டா³ஞ் ஜக³த்ராண ஶௌண்டா³ந்
ஸதா³ தே ப்ரசண்டா³ந் ஶ்ரயே பா³ஹுத³ண்டா³ந் ॥
Meaning:
Oh! Shanmuga! Thy arms punished Brahma, Thy arms governs the world as Thy play, Thy arms killed Soorapadma and other demons who are enemies of Indra, Thy arms are matchless in protecting the Universe, and Thy arms are a terror to Thine enemies. I worship Thy twelve arms which does all these things effortlessly.
॥ 13 ॥
Sadā śāradāḥ ṣaṇmṛgāṅkā yadi syuḥ
Samudyanta eva sthitāścetsamantāt ।
Sadā pūrṇabimbāḥ kalaṅkaiśca hīnā-
Stadā tvanmukhānāṃ bruve skanda sāmyam ॥
सदा शारदाः षण्मृगाङ्का यदि स्युः
समुद्यन्त एव स्थिताश्चेत्समन्तात् ।
सदा पूर्णबिम्बाः कलङ्कैश्च हीना-
स्तदा त्वन्मुखानां ब्रुवे स्कन्द साम्यम् ॥
ஸதா³ ஶாரதா:³ ஷண்ம்ருʼகா³ங்கா யதி³ ஸ்யு:
ஸமுத்³யந்த ஏவ ஸ்தி²தாஶ்சேத்ஸமந்தாத் ।
ஸதா³ பூர்ணபி³ம்பா:³ கலங்கைஶ்ச ஹீநா-
ஸ்ததா³ த்வந்முகா²நாம் ப்³ருவே ஸ்கந்த³ ஸாம்யம் ॥
Meaning:
What can I compare to the six faces! If there be six full moons free from blemishes and if those moons be ever shining on all sides, even then they would be no match to your effulgent faces.
॥ 14 ॥
Sphuran mandahāsaiḥ sahaṃsāni cañcat
Kaṭākṣā valī bhṛṅga saṅghojjvalāni ।
Sudhāsyandi bimbā dharāṇīśasūno
Tavālokaye ṣaṇmukhām bhoruhāṇi ॥
स्फुरन्मन्दहासैः सहंसानि चञ्च-
त्कटाक्षावलीभृङ्ग सङ्घोज्ज्वलानि ।
सुधास्यन्दि बिम्बा धराणीश सूनो
तवालोकये षण्मुखाम्भोरुहाणि ॥
ஸ்பு²ரந் மந்த³ஹாஸை: ஸஹம்ஸாநி சஞ்சத்
கடாக்ஷாவலீ ப்⁴ருʼங்க³ ஸங்கோ⁴ஜ் ஜ்வலாநி ।
ஸுதா⁴ ஸ்யந்தி³ பி³ம்பா³ த⁴ராணீஶ ஸூநோ
தவாலோகயே ஷண்முகா²ம் போ⁴ருஹாணி ॥
Meaning:
Oh! Son of Parameshwara, I see Thy six lotus smiling faces shining like a group of swans, having gleaming side glance ever moving like a row of bees and with red lips overflowing with nectar.
॥ 15 ॥
Viśāleṣu karṇānta dīrgheṣvajasraṃ
Dayāsyandiṣu dvādaśasvīkṣaṇeṣu ।
Mayīṣatkaṭākṣaḥ sakṛtpātitaśced
Bhavette dayāśīla kā nāma hāniḥ ॥
विशालेषु कर्णान्तदीर्घेष्वजस्रं
दयास्यन्दिषु द्वादशस्वीक्षणेषु ।
मयीषत्कटाक्षः सकृत्पातितश्चे-
द्भवेत्ते दयाशील का नाम हानिः ॥
விஶாலேஷு கர்ணாந்ததீ³ர்கே⁴ஷ்வஜஸ்ரம்
த³யாஸ்யந்தி³ஷு த்³வாத³ஶஸ்வீக்ஷணேஷு ।
மயீஷத்கடாக்ஷ: ஸக்ருʼத்பாதிதஶ்சேத்³
ப⁴வேத்தே த³யாஶீல கா நாம ஹாநி: ॥ 15॥
Meaning:
Oh! Son of Parameshwara! Oh! Merciful Lord! When Thou hast twelve broad long eyes extending upto ears, what will Thou loose by casting that side glance for a moment [on me]?
॥ 16 ॥
Sutāṅgodbhavo me'si jīveti ṣaḍdhā
Japanmantramīśo mudā jighrate yān ।
Jagad bhāra bhṛdbhyo jagannātha tebhyaḥ
Kirīṭojjvalebhyo namo mastakebhyaḥ ॥
सुताङ्गोद्भवो मेऽसि जीवेति षड्धा
जपन्मन्त्रमीशो मुदा जिघ्रते यान् ।
जगद्भारभृद्भ्यो जगन्नाथ तेभ्यः
किरीटोज्ज्वलेभ्यो नमो मस्तकेभ्यः ॥
ஸுதாங்கோ³த்³ப⁴வோ மேঽஸி ஜீவேதி ஷட்³தா⁴
ஜபந் மந்த்ரமீஶோ முதா³ ஜிக்⁴ரதே யாந் ।
ஜக³த்³ பா⁴ரப்⁴ருʼத்³ப்⁴யோ ஜக³ந்நாத² தேப்⁴ய:
கிரீடோஜ் ஜ்வலேப்⁴யோ நமோ மஸ்தகேப்⁴ய: ॥
Meaning:
Oh! Lord of the Universe! I offer my prostration to Thy six heads wearing crowns with brilliant rubies which protect the welfare of creatures, which were smelt by Parameshwara with joy uttering six times the mantra. “Child Thou were born of me, May Thou live long.”
॥ 17 ॥
Sphurad ratna keyūra hārā bhirāmaś
Calatkuṇḍala śrīlasad gaṇḍa bhāgaḥ ।
Kaṭau pītavāsāḥ kare cāruśaktiḥ
Purastān mamāstāṃ purārestanūjaḥ ॥
स्फुरद्रत्नकेयूरहाराभिराम-
श्चलत्कुण्डलश्रीलसद्गण्डभागः ।
कटौ पीतवासाः करे चारुशक्तिः
पुरस्तान्ममास्तां पुरारेस्तनूजः ॥
ஸ்பு²ரத்³ரத்நகேயூரஹாராபி⁴ராமஶ்
சலத்குண்ட³ல ஶ்ரீலஸத்³ க³ண்ட³ பா⁴க:³ ।
கடௌ பீதவாஸா: கரே சாருஶக்தி:
புரஸ்தாந் மமாஸ்தாம் புராரேஸ் தநூஜ: ॥
Meaning:
Oh Kumara! Son of Lord Parameshwara (who destroyed Tripura)! With garlands of brilliant rubies on Thy shoulders and chest, with bright cheeks shining when pendants dangling from Thy ears, wearing
silk garment around Thy waist, and with vel in Thy hand, Oh! Lord appear before me (It is said that Lord appeared before AchArya when he sung this stotra)!
Hvayat yādarāc chaṅkare māturaṅkāt ।
Samutpatya tātaṃ śrayantaṃ kumāraṃ
Harāśliṣṭa gātraṃ bhaje bālamūrtim ॥
इहायाहि वत्सेति हस्तान्प्रसार्या-
ह्वयत्यादराच्छङ्करे मातुरङ्कात् ।
समुत्पत्य तातं श्रयन्तं कुमारं
हराश्लिष्टगात्रं भजे बालमूर्तिम् ॥

Ihāyāhi vatseti hastānprasāryā-Hvayat yādarāc chaṅkare māturaṅkāt ।
Samutpatya tātaṃ śrayantaṃ kumāraṃ
Harāśliṣṭa gātraṃ bhaje bālamūrtim ॥
इहायाहि वत्सेति हस्तान्प्रसार्या-
ह्वयत्यादराच्छङ्करे मातुरङ्कात् ।
समुत्पत्य तातं श्रयन्तं कुमारं
हराश्लिष्टगात्रं भजे बालमूर्तिम् ॥
இஹாயாஹி வத்ஸேதி ஹஸ்தாந்ப்ரஸார்யா-
ஹ்வயத்யாத³ராச்ச²ங்கரே மாதுரங்காத் ।
ஸமுத்பத்ய தாதம் ஶ்ரயந்தம் குமாரம்
ஹராஶ்லிஷ்டகா³த்ரம் ப⁴ஜே பா³லமூர்திம் ॥
Meaning:
When Lord Shankara called Thee affectionately with arms extended. Thou hurriedly rose from Mother's lap and rushed into Shankara's arms who embraced thee affectionately. I meditate on such a Lord Kumara.
॥ 19 ॥
Kumāreśa sūno guha skanda senā-Pate śaktipāṇe mayūrādhirūḍha ।
Pulindāt majākānta bhaktārti hārin
Prabho tārakāre sadā rakṣa māṃ tvam ॥
कुमारेशसूनो गुह स्कन्द सेना-
पते शक्तिपाणे मयूराधिरूढ ।
पुलिन्दात्मजाकान्त भक्तार्तिहारिन्
प्रभो तारकारे सदा रक्ष मां त्वम् ॥
குமாரேஶ ஸூநோ கு³ஹ ஸ்கந்த³ ஸேநா-
பதே ஶக்திபாணே மயூராதி⁴ரூட⁴ ।
புலிந்தா³த் மஜாகாந்த ப⁴க்தார்தி ஹாரிந்
ப்ரபோ⁴ தாரகாரே ஸதா³ ரக்ஷ மாம் த்வம் ॥
Meaning:
Oh kumara! Oh Son of Lord of the Universe! One shines in the cave of the heart as GuhA! Oh skanda! Oh Lord of the Devas Army! Wielder of the weapon Vel (spear) which is the svarUpa of Parashakti!
One who rides on the peacock chariot! Oh Beloved of the Hunter's daughter (Valli)! Destroyer of the sins of your devotees! Enemy of the TarAkasura! Oh Lord protect me! It is said that one who recites these nine will over come the passions.
॥ 20 ॥
Praśāntendriye naṣṭasaṃjñe viceṣṭeKaphod gārivaktre bhayot kampigātre ।
Prayāṇonmukhe mayya nāthe tadānīṃ
Drutaṃ me dayālo bhavāgre guha tvam ॥
प्रशान्तेन्द्रिये नष्टसंज्ञे विचेष्टे
कफोद्गारिवक्त्रे भयोत्कम्पिगात्रे ।
प्रयाणोन्मुखे मय्यनाथे तदानीं
द्रुतं मे दयालो भवाग्रे गुह त्वम् ॥
ப்ரஶாந்தேந்த்³ரியே நஷ்ட ஸம்ஜ்ஞே விசேஷ்டே
கபோ²த்³கா³ரி வக்த்ரே ப⁴யோத் கம்பிகா³த்ரே ।
ப்ரயாணோந்முகே² மய்ய நாதே² ததா³நீம்
த்³ருதம் மே த³யாலோ ப⁴வாக்³ரே கு³ஹ த்வம் ॥
Meaning:
Hail Guha, Dayalo. During the last moments of my life, when I will have lost control of senses, when I will have lost consciousness, when I will be unable move my limbs, when I will be emitting foam of phlegm, when my body will be trembling with fear of death, when I will have none to protect me, Thou must hasten to give me Darshan then.
॥ 21 ॥
kRRitAntasya dUteShu chaNDeShu kopAd
Daha chChinddhi bhinddhIti mAM tarjayatsu |
MayUraM samAruhya mA bhairiti tvaM
PuraH shaktipANirmamAyAhi shIghram ||
कृतान्तस्य दूतेषु चण्डेषु कोपा-
द्दह च्छिन्द्धि भिन्द्धीति मां तर्जयत्सु ।
मयूरं समारुह्य मा भैरिति त्वं
पुरः शक्तिपाणिर्ममायाहि शीघ्रम् ॥
க்ருʼதாந்தஸ்ய தூ³தேஷு சண்டே³ஷு கோபா-
த்³த³ஹ ச்சி²ந்த்³தி⁴ பி⁴ந்த்³தீ⁴தி மாம் தர்ஜயத்ஸு ।
மயூரம் ஸமாருஹ்ய மா பை⁴ரிதி த்வம்
புர: ஶக்திபாணிர்மமாயாஹி ஶீக்⁴ரம் ॥
Meaning:
Oh! Lord, when ferocious messengers of Death-God come to torture me angrily shouting, "Burn him, Kill him" Oh! Lord Thou must hasten to appear before me, riding on Peacock, carrying Shaktivel, to encourage me not to be afraid.
॥ 22 ॥
PraNamyAsakRRitpAdayoste patitvAPrasAdya prabho prArthaye.anekavAram |
Na vaktuM kShamo.ahaM tadAnIM kRRipAbdhe
Na kAryAntakAle manAgapyupekShA ||
प्रणम्यासकृत्पादयोस्ते पतित्वा
प्रसाद्य प्रभो प्रार्थयेऽनेकवारम् ।
न वक्तुं क्षमोऽहं तदानीं कृपाब्धे
न कार्यान्तकाले मनागप्युपेक्षा ॥
ப்ரணம்யாஸக்ருʼத்பாத³யோஸ்தே பதித்வா
ப்ரஸாத்³ய ப்ரபோ⁴ ப்ரார்த²யேঽநேகவாரம் ।
ந வக்தும் க்ஷமோঽஹம் ததா³நீம் க்ருʼபாப்³தே⁴
ந கார்யாந்தகாலே மநாக³ப்யுபேக்ஷா ॥
Meaning:
Oh Merciful Lord! I am prostating to Thy feet often to secure Thy blessings. Oh treasure house of mercy! I offer prayers to please Thee. Thou should not be indifferent towards me during my last moments. At that time I may not have the control and energy to pray to Thee!
॥ 23 ॥
SahasrANDabhoktA tvayA shUranAmA
HatastArakaH siMhavaktrashcha daityaH |
MamAntarhRRidisthaM manaHkleshamekaM
Na haMsi prabho kiM karomi kva yAmi ||
सहस्राण्डभोक्ता त्वया शूरनामा
हतस्तारकः सिंहवक्त्रश्च दैत्यः ।
ममान्तर्हृदिस्थं मनःक्लेशमेकं
न हंसि प्रभो किं करोमि क्व यामि ॥
ஸஹஸ்ராண்ட³ போ⁴க்தா த்வயா ஶூரநாமா
ஹதஸ்தாரக: ஸிம்ஹ வக்த்ரஶ்ச தை³த்ய: ।
மமாந்தர்ஹ்ருʼதி³ஸ்த²ம் மந:க்லேஶமேகம்
ந ஹம்ஸி ப்ரபோ⁴ கிம் கரோமி க்வ யாமி ॥
Meaning:
O Lord! Thous hast slain the demon Soora who ruled the thousand universes! So were the demons Tarakasura and Simhavaktra. But Lord, why have you not killed the demon called mental worry which haunts my mind? When it is afflicting me, what will I do? and where will I go other than you for help?
॥ 24 ॥
AhaM sarvadA duHkhabhArAvasannoBhavAn dInabandhus tvadanyaM na yAche |
bhavad bhaktirodhaM sadA kLLiptabAdhaM
mamAdhiM drutaM nAshayomAsuta tvam ||
अहं सर्वदा दुःखभारावसन्नो
भवान्दीनबन्धुस्त्वदन्यं न याचे ।
भवद्भक्तिरोधं सदा कॢप्तबाधं
ममाधिं द्रुतं नाशयोमासुत त्वम् ॥
அஹம் ஸர்வதா³ து:³க²பா⁴ராவஸந்நோ
ப⁴வாந்தீ³நப³ந்து⁴ஸ்த்வத³ந்யம் ந யாசே ।
ப⁴வத்³ப⁴க்திரோத⁴ம் ஸதா³ க்லுʼப்தபா³த⁴ம்
மமாதி⁴ம் த்³ருதம் நாஶயோமாஸுத த்வம் ॥
Meaning:
Oh Son of Uma! I am always troubled by the mental worries. Thou art the friend of helpless! I approach none but you for saving me. Quickly destroy my mental worries as they interfere with my devotion towards Thee!
॥ 25 ॥
apasmArakuShThakShayArshaH prameha-
jvaronmAdagulmAdirogA mahAntaH |
pishAchAshcha sarve bhavatpatrabhUtiM
vilokya kShaNAttArakAre dravante ||
अपस्मारकुष्ठक्षयार्शः प्रमेह-
ज्वरोन्मादगुल्मादिरोगा महान्तः ।
पिशाचाश्च सर्वे भवत्पत्रभूतिं
विलोक्य क्षणात्तारकारे द्रवन्ते ॥
அபஸ்மார குஷ்ட² க்ஷயார்ஶ: ப்ரமேஹ-
ஜ்வரோந் மாத³கு³ல்மாதி³ ரோகா³ மஹாந்த: ।
பிஶாசாஶ்ச ஸர்வே ப⁴வத்பத்ர பூ⁴திம்
விலோக்ய க்ஷணாத் தாரகாரே த்³ரவந்தே ॥
Meaning:
Oh Conqueror of Taraka! Severe epilepsy, leprosy, consumption, lung diseases, venreal diseases, fevers, mental diseases of all types, they run away the moment they apply vibhuti.
॥ 26 ॥
dRRishi skandamUrtiH shrutau skandakIrtir
Mukhe me pavitraM sadA tachcharitram |
Kare tasya kRRityaM vapustasya bhRRityaM
Guhe santu lInA mamAsheShabhAvAH ||
दृशि स्कन्दमूर्तिः श्रुतौ स्कन्दकीर्ति-
र्मुखे मे पवित्रं सदा तच्चरित्रम् ।
करे तस्य कृत्यं वपुस्तस्य भृत्यं
गुहे सन्तु लीना ममाशेषभावाः ॥
த்³ருʼஶி ஸ்கந்த³மூர்தி: ஶ்ருதௌ ஸ்கந்த³கீர்திர்
முகே² மே பவித்ரம் ஸதா³ தச்சரித்ரம் ।
கரே தஸ்ய க்ருʼத்யம் வபுஸ்தஸ்ய ப்⁴ருʼத்யம்
கு³ஹே ஸந்து லீநா மமாஶேஷபா⁴வா: ॥
Meaning:
Always may I have before my eyes the Murti of Lord Skanda! Always let my ears hear only the praises of Lord Skanda! Always let my mouth sing the praise of Lord Skanda! Always let my hands be of service to the Lord! Always let my body be a servant to the Lord! Let my limbs, thoughts and actions be devoted to Skanda!
॥ 27 ॥
MunInA mutAho nRRiNAM bhaktibhAjA-
mabhIShTapradAH santi sarvatra devAH |
nRRiNAmantyajAnAmapi svArthadAne
GuhAddevamanyaM na jAne na jAne ||
मुनीनामुताहो नृणां भक्तिभाजा-
मभीष्टप्रदाः सन्ति सर्वत्र देवाः ।
नृणामन्त्यजानामपि स्वार्थदाने
गुहाद्देवमन्यं न जाने न जाने ॥
முநீநாமுதாஹோ ந்ருʼணாம் ப⁴க்திபா⁴ஜா-
மபீ⁴ஷ்டப்ரதா:³ ஸந்தி ஸர்வத்ர தே³வா: ।
ந்ருʼணாமந்த்யஜாநாமபி ஸ்வார்த²தா³நே
கு³ஹாத்³தே³வமந்யம் ந ஜாநே ந ஜாநே ॥
Meaning:
In all the worlds there are Devas to grant the boons of sages and great bhaktas. But for the lowly and ordinary devotees, I know not of any other Deity to protect them except Guha!
॥ 28 ॥
KalatraM sutA bandhuvargaH pashurvA
Naro vAtha nAri gRRihe ye madIyAH |
Yajanto namantaH stuvanto bhavantaM
Smarantashcha te santu sarve kumAra ||
कलत्रं सुता बन्धुवर्गः पशुर्वा
नरो वाथ नारि गृहे ये मदीयाः ।
यजन्तो नमन्तः स्तुवन्तो भवन्तं
स्मरन्तश्च ते सन्तु सर्वे कुमार ॥
கலத்ரம் ஸுதா ப³ந்து⁴வர்க:³ பஶுர்வா
நரோ வாத² நாரி க்³ருʼஹே யே மதீ³யா: ।
யஜந்தோ நமந்த: ஸ்துவந்தோ ப⁴வந்தம்
ஸ்மரந்தஶ்ச தே ஸந்து ஸர்வே குமார ॥
Meaning:
Oh Lord KumAra! Let my wife, children, relatives, friends, other men and women in our household, venerate Thee! praise Thee! and always absorbed in Thy thoughts!
॥ 29 ॥
mRRigAH pakShiNo daMshakA ye cha duShTA-
StathA vyAdhayo bAdhakA ye mada~Nge |
BhavachChakti tIkShNAgra bhinnAH sudUre
Vinashyantu te chUrNita kraunja shaila ||
मृगाः पक्षिणो दंशका ये च दुष्टा-
स्तथा व्याधयो बाधका ये मदङ्गे ।
भवच्छक्ति तीक्ष्णाग्र भिन्नाः सुदूरे
विनश्यन्तु ते चूर्णित क्रौञ्जशैल ॥
ம்ருʼகா:³ பக்ஷிணோ த³ம்ஶகா யே ச து³ஷ்டா-
ஸ்ததா² வ்யாத⁴யோ பா³த⁴கா யே மத³ங்கே³ ।
ப⁴வச்ச²க்தி தீக்ஷ்ணாக்³ர பி⁴ந்நா: ஸுதூ³ரே
விநஶ்யந்து தே சூர்ணித க்ரௌஞ்ஜ ஶைல ॥
Meaning:
Oh! Destroyer of Krauncha Shaila! Let every thing that trouble my body, birds, beasts, insects, severe
diseases, be pierced by Thy powerful weapon Vel and taken far away and destroyed.
॥ 30 ॥
Janitrī pitā ca svaputrāparādhaṃ
Sahete na kiṃ devasenādhinātha ।
Ahaṃ cātibālo bhavān lokatātaḥ
Kṣamasvāparādhaṃ samastaṃ maheśa ॥
जनित्री पिता च स्वपुत्रापराधं
सहेते न किं देवसेनाधिनाथ ।
अहं चातिबालो भवान् लोकतातः
क्षमस्वापराधं समस्तं महेश ॥
ஜநித்ரீ பிதா ச ஸ்வபுத்ராபராத⁴ம்
ஸஹேதே ந கிம் தே³வஸேநாதி⁴நாத² ।
அஹம் சாதிபா³லோ ப⁴வாந் லோகதாத:
க்ஷமஸ்வாபராத⁴ம் ஸமஸ்தம் மஹேஶ ॥
Meaning:
Do not the parents overlook the faults of their children? Oh! Chief of the army of Devas! I am a small child. Thou art the Father of the Universe. Oh MaheshA! Forgive all my faults.
॥ 31 ॥
Namaḥ kekine śaktaye cāpi tubhyaṃNamaśchāga tubhyaṃ namaḥ kukkuṭāya ।
Namaḥ sindhave sindhudeśāya tubhyaṃ
Punaḥ skandamūrte namaste namo'stu ॥
नमः केकिने शक्तये चापि तुभ्यं
नमश्छाग तुभ्यं नमः कुक्कुटाय ।
नमः सिन्धवे सिन्धुदेशाय तुभ्यं
पुनः स्कन्दमूर्ते नमस्ते नमोऽस्तु ॥
நம: கேகிநே ஶக்தயே சாபி துப்⁴யம்
நமஶ்சா²க³ துப்⁴யம் நம: குக்குடாய ।
நம: ஸிந்த⁴வே ஸிந்து⁴ தே³ஶாய துப்⁴யம்
புந: ஸ்கந்த³ மூர்தே நமஸ்தே நமோঽஸ்து ॥
Meaning:
I bow to Thee, O Peacock (the symbol of vedas)! I bow to Thee, O Shakti Weapon ( Vel is Parashakti herself), I bow to Thee, O Sheep (the symbol of MAya tatvam); I bow to Thee, O Cock (the symbol of Ego); I bow to Thee, O Ocean (the symbol of ananda); I bow to Thee, O Thiruchendur Shrine; I bow to Thee, O Lord Skanda!; I bow to Thee again and again! Let all my prostrations reach Thee!
॥ 32 ॥
Jayānanda bhūmañ jayāpāradhāmañ
Jayāmogha kīrte jayānanda mūrte ।
Jayānanda sindho jayāśeṣa bandho
Jaya tvaṃ sadā muktidāneśa sūno ॥
जया नन्द भूमञ्जयापारधाम-
ञ्जया मोघ कीर्ते जया नन्दमूर्ते ।
जया नन्दसिन्धो जया शेषबन्धो
जय त्वं सदा मुक्तिदानेशसूनो ॥
ஜயா நந்த³ பூ⁴மஞ் ஜயா பாரதா⁴மஞ்
ஜயா மோக⁴ கீர்தே ஜயா நந்த³மூர்தே ।
ஜயா நந்த³ஸிந்தோ⁴ ஜயா ஶேஷ ப³ந்தோ⁴
ஜய த்வம் ஸதா³ முக்தி தா³நேஶ ஸூநோ ॥
Meaning:
O Source of Ananda, reveal Thyself! O Embodiment boundless effulgent light, reveal Thyself! O Lord! who has all pervading glory, reveal Thyself! O Embodiment of bliss, reveal Thyself! O Lord, Thou art the ocean of bliss, reveal Thyself! O Lord who is the friend of all creatures, reveal Thyself! O Lord, Son of Parameshwara, Bestower of liberation, reveal Thy Glory to me and protect me!
॥ 33 ॥
Bhujaṅ gākhya vṛttena kḷptaṃ stavaṃ yaḥ
Paṭhed bhaktiyukto guhaṃ sampraṇamya ।
Suputrān kalatraṃ dhanaṃ dīrghamāyur
Labhet skanda sāyujyamante naraḥ saḥ ॥
भुजङ्गाख्यवृत्तेन कॢप्तं स्तवं यः
पठेद्भक्तियुक्तो गुहं सम्प्रणम्य ।
सुपुत्रान्कलत्रं धनं दीर्घमायु-
र्लभेत्स्कन्दसायुज्यमन्ते नरः सः ॥
பு⁴ஜங்கா³க்²ய வ்ருʼத்தேந க்லுʼப்தம் ஸ்தவம் ய:
படே²த்³ ப⁴க்தி யுக்தோ கு³ஹம் ஸம்ப்ரணம்ய ।
ஸுபுத்ராந் கலத்ரம் த⁴நம் தீ³ர்க⁴மாயுர்
லபே⁴த் ஸ்கந்த³ ஸாயுஜ்ய மந்தே நர: ஸ: ॥
Meaning:
That holy devotee, who prostrates to Lord Guha, reciting the Bhujanga stotra daily, with devotion, will be blessed with good sons, good wife, wealth and long life, and at end of his life, will attain eternal bliss with Lord Skanda!
॥ iti śrīmacchaṅkarabhagavataḥ kṛtau
śrīsubrahmaṇyabhujaṅgaṃ sampūrṇam ॥
॥ इति श्रीमच्छङ्करभगवतः कृतौ
श्रीसुब्रह्मण्य भुजङ्गं सम्पूर्णम् ॥
॥ இதி ஶ்ரீமச் ச²ங்கர ப⁴க³வத: க்ருʼதௌ
ஶ்ரீஸுப்³ரஹ்மண்ய பு⁴ஜங்க³ம் ஸம்பூர்ணம் ॥
